Special Limited Edition Pieces
The first of the Peterson special and limited edition pipes, the Peterson Centennial, was released in 1975 in celebration of 100 years of pipe making. In 1981 they introduced the Mark Twain, a re-creation of a favorite shape. At first, only 400 gold banded pipes were made in this numbered limited edition. As the popularity of the pipe grew, production of the gold banded pipes was increased to 1000, and 2500 silver banded pipes were made. In 1988 the Millennium was released, commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the City of Dublin. These pipes were available in both an Oom Paul, and a Dublin. The Claret is a Limited Edition set of two pipes with a rich claret finish, mounted with a hallmarked sterling silver band. Available with the "P" lip or fishtail mouthpiece. Gift packaged and individually numbered 1 to 200. Perhaps the most popular limited edition sets was the 7 day Sherlock Holmes set. The first pipe in that set was released in 1987 to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the publication of "A Study in Scarlet" it was a briar calabash called "The Original." Every six months a new shape was introduced to the series - Baskerville, Baker Street, Deerstalker, Squire, Professor, and Doctor Watson. A special pipe rack was made to display the set. This series was so popular, another 7 day set was produced. "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" which includes the Hansom, Rathbone, Hudson, Mycroft, Le Strade, Milverton, and Strand. These extra large shapes are available in smooth, rustic, ebony and some sandblast finishes all with hallmark Sterling silver bands, with either a "P" lip or fishtail mouthpiece.
