After concluding that a lot of the bitterness new briar pipes produce was being caused by residual saps left in the wood after curing, Alfred Dunhill began a quest to perfect a seasoning process. In 1910 he succeeded in creating a unique process that would insure a fine smoking briar from the very first smoke. Extreme attention is given to every facet of production. It takes over ninety steps and three months to complete a pipe. Such factors as bowl and shank thickness, the accuracy of the bore, and the precise fit of the mouthpiece all contribute to the strength and durability of each pipe. From the selection and curing of the briar, to the painstaking finish and the shaping of the mouthpiece, these exquisite pipes are designed for optimal comfort, balance and superior smoking qualities. Undoubtedly, the most collected and certainly the most prestigious brand. The famous White Dot on the stem, has become synonymous with premium quality smoking pipes.
